Volunteer Opportunities

Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) occasionally has various volunteer opportunities available such as folding brochures, assembling outreach supplies, filing, or conducting outreach in the community. Internship Opportunities (2019/2020 Academic Year)

KCPHD offers internships to college students interested in Public Health OR closely related fields through our Environmental Health and Health Promotion Divisions.

To apply for an internship please submit a resume, cover letter, and three professional, academic, or volunteer references to publichealth@co.kittitas.wa.us. Reference the specific internship position that you are applying for in your cover letter. Applicants will be contacted to schedule an in-person interview.

We recommend that you contact CWU’s Career Services Department for assistance with your application documents and to prepare for your interview. Applicants who do not submit all required documents will not be considered.

Septic Program Intern

Quarters: All quarters

This position supports the On Site Septic program of the Environmental Health division through a combination of field work, clerical duties, and data analysis. Successful applicants will have an understanding of basic scientific principles and will be comfortable in both office and outdoor work environments.

Harm Reduction Program Intern

This position supports the Harm Reduction program by working with individuals at weekly programs, assisting with harm reduction education, and creating awareness about harm reduction techniques within the community. Intern must be available Thursday afternoons from 12:30 – 3:00 specifically to assist with the Never Share Syringe Exchange.

KERNEL Program Intern

Quarters: Spring and Summer

The KERNEL Program Intern will primarily focus on supporting the Kids Eating Right Nutrition and Exercise for Life Program, which provides physical activity and nutrition activities and education to children at the Ellensburg Farmers Market. Duties will include assisting with planning, curriculum preparation, outreach, volunteer coordination, and activity delivery. Intern must be available Saturdays from 8:00 – 2:00 to be present at the farmers market

Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative Intern

Quarters: Fall, Winter, and Spring

Start Date: Spring Quarter – 04/06/20

The Public Health Intern for the Community Prevention Wellness Initiative (CPWI) supports the CPWI program by working in Upper Kittitas County and the Cle Elum/Roslyn School District to assist staff in providing substance use prevention services and strategies to the community. This position also assists in supporting the Cascade Prevention Coalition and attends meetings in the Cle Elum from 8:00 -9:00 am on the 4th Thursday of every month.
