Kittitas County Hires New Public Works Director

Kittitas County, WA - 04/14/2015 - The Board of County Commissioners is pleased to introduce Mark Cook as the new Kittitas County Public Works Director.

Mark is a certified Professional Engineer in three states, and is well-versed in the complexities of public works services.  Mark graduated from the University of Idaho with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.  His career has included work as the Stormwater Program Manager for the Thurston County Department of Water and Waste Management, Public Works Director/City Engineer for the City of Moscow Idaho, and Public Works Director/County Engineer for Lewis County.  After leaving Lewis County Mark started his own company, Cook Engineering and Development Services PLLC, which has kept him busy for almost eight years.
 
Mark was the candidate of choice after a rigorous selection process which involved a panel of County employees as well as an external agency panel comprised of representatives from the City of Ellensburg, City of Cle Elum, Kittitas County Conservation District, Central Washington Home Builder’s Association, County Road Administration Board, Washington State Department of Transportation, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.  There were seventeen applications received, and ten candidates were interviewed.  We truly appreciate the time and dedication of everyone who assisted us with this process and we valued their input greatly.  The final step was an interview with the full Board of County Commissioners, and panel feedback was taken into consideration.
 
Mark and his wife currently reside in Curtis, WA; however, they are excited about the opportunity to become rural land owners in Kittitas County.  His first day in the department will be Monday, May 4.
