Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 08/29/2014 - Effective this morning, the Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center has removed all county roadblocks and road closure signs for the Snag Canyon Fire north of Ellensburg.
The following roads are now back open to the public: Robbins Road and the Sun East development, Wilson Creek and Naneum Roads north of Charlton Road, Cooke Canyon Road, Colockum Road, and Reecer Creek Road north of Forest Service Road 3500. The opening of these county roads is in conjunction with the DNR's scheduled reopening of the Naneum State Forest today at 8 am. The Forest Service also downsized its area closure earlier this week, but still has several road closures within Forest Service boundaries due to potential safety hazards associated with the aftermath of a wildfire. Everyone going into these areas is reminded to use caution, as firefighters may still be working in the area, and please comply with the current ban on campfires.
