Kittitas County, WA - 08/04/2014 - Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center personnel spent today assessing properties damaged by the Snag Canyon Fire in Ellensburg. Sixteen structures are confirmed lost at this time. Of these, 6 structures were residences or cabins and 10 additional parcels of property have other structure loss, including outbuildings or RVs.
Once residents are allowed back into the fire affected areas, anyone with property damage is encouraged to file a report with the EOC, either by calling 509-933-8305 or by filling out the damage form on the county website, http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/. This information will be used in determining if damages are significant enough to warrant a request for federal disaster assistance and various other forms of assistance. Washington Incident Management Team 1 has increased the acreage estimation to 1,930 acres and 10% containment as of 6PM. There are approximately 200 personnel assigned to the fire. There have been no injuries or accidents to report. A public meeting is planned for Tuesday, August 5th at 7:00pm at Central Washington University’s Student Union Recreation Center Theater, 400 E. University Way, Ellensburg. Representatives from the Kittitas County EOC and the Washington Incident Management Team #1 will be present to give a fire update and answer questions. Parking is free. “We strongly encourage affected residents to attend Tuesday’s public meeting for more information and to ask questions. This is also a good opportunity to file damage reports with the Emergency Operations Center and to learn of community resources that are available to fire victims.” Evacuation levels and road closures have not changed and will be reassessed each day. Anyone needing the Red Cross emergency shelter can contact the EOC. The emergency shelter for livestock and other animals remains open at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds.
