Kittitas County, WA - 10/01/2025 - The Washington State Auditor's Office completed its 2024 Audit of Kittitas County on September 29th.
The Kittitas County Auditor's Office is thrilled to announce that we have received a "clean" 2024 Audit from the Washington State Auditor’s Office (SAO). The 2024 audit report also represents a significant leap forward for the County’s financial practices. While the County completed timely audits with $0 in questioned costs the previous two years, it had received minor findings related to administrative reporting requirements on federal grants. However, through dedicated collaboration and a commitment to continuous improvement led by the Auditor's Office, the County was able to significantly enhance its internal controls and processes, resulting in a clean audit for 2024. Kittitas County Auditor, Bryan Elliott, expressed his pride in the accomplishment: "I am very proud of my team and the other departments and offices who have helped us achieve this milestone. This is a win for the whole county and reflects positively on our shared commitment to responsible use, management, and oversight of taxpayer dollars. I look forward to continuing this great work in future years as we strive to earn the status of being a low risk 'auditee' which could yield greater cost savings on subsequent audits." The success is a testament to the hard work put in by staff since early August in partnership with the State Auditor’s Office. The County extends a huge thank you to all its partners, especially the Treasurer's Office, Public Works, Public Health, the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office, and the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners. Special recognition is due to our Budget and Finance Director, Zack DeHaven, for leading this year's effort and setting a high standard in his first audit cycle.
