FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kittitas County Health Order Effective Today

Kittitas County, WA - 03/24/2020 - The Kittitas County Health Order requiring residents of Kittitas County to stay at home is effective beginning today and remains in place until April 3, 2020 at 11:59 pm. The health order requires every person living in Kittitas County to stay home in response to the spread of COVID-19. The local health order aligns with the statewide requirements put into place by Governor Inslee as well.

Residents should stay at home, but may leave for essential activities such as the following:

  • Going to work if you are a critical worker or work for an essential business (guidance below).
  • Taking care of your health (picking up medicine, going to a doctor’s appointment).
  • Picking up groceries (food, cleaning products, pet supplies).
  • Caring for a loved one in another household.
  • Getting outside for your health and wellbeing.

Guidance is available for individuals and businesses wondering if they are considered critical or essential at https://www.cisa.gov/identifying-critical-infrastructure-during-covid-19.

Kittitas County is not requiring documentation from people when they are leaving their homes.  If you leave your home for essential services, comply with social distancing requirements as reasonably as possible.  Do not stand within six feet of someone for ten minutes or more. “The responsibility to stop the spread of COVID-19 is on us,” asserts Public Health Director Tristen Lamb.  “Everyone in our county is liable for an exposure that occurs when the health order is not followed.”

All public and private gatherings of any number of people outside of the household are prohibited.  Social distance requirements do not apply to members living in the same household.  All travel is prohibited, unless it is for essential activities listed above.

If you have concerns about the health order or general questions about COVID-19, please call the Emergency Operation Center at 509-933-8315 or 509-933-8305.  Please watch our county website along with our social media for more information today at www.co.kittitas.wa.us or Facebook.
