Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 02/05/2019 - Effective immediately the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners office will be temporarily relocated to the Kittitas County Event Center.
On February 5, 2019 the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners approved Resolution No. 2019-018 declaring an emergency out of concern for the safety of their employees and to the general public. Newly formed cracks were discovered in the ceiling above the Commissioners office which is in close proximity of the Clerk's office where there are rows of heavy filing cabinets stored. Under observation of the Kittitas County Building Official the floor above the Commissioners office appeared to deflect or bounce under his weight and is suspect that it may be overloaded for its original design. In a memorandum dated January 31, 2019 the Building Official recommended that a professional engineer be enlisted to inspect the flooring system above as to what its load bearing capabilities are. Commissioner Brett Wachsmith said that "public and employee safety is our number one priority". The structural concerns are currently unknown and a report will be issued upon completion of an inspection. The temporary relocation of the office is out of caution for employees and to the general public. The Resolution allows for the county to enter into necessary contracts and to incur obligations in order to protect the health and safety of persons and property.
