Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County is updating its Comprehensive plan as required by the Washington State Growth Management Act (GMA). Kittitas County’s comprehensive plan will establish policies for community growth and development for the next 20 years. Kittitas County’s update process is required to be completed by June 30, 2017, see RCW 36.70A.130(5)(c).
Kittitas County is holding visioning meetings for the Comprehensive Plan update. Share your input at one of the 2016 public visioning meetings. Come out and help us plan for the next 20 years!
Meeting topics will include: housing, community character, transportation, economic development, recreation, and natural resources.
In conjunction with the Board of County Commissioners and the Kittitas County Conference of Governments, Kittitas County planning staff will review the existing comprehensive plan and other relevant planning documents and subarea plans to determine the extent of the comprehensive planning process.
A public participation program has been developed which includes multiple opportunities for public participation throughout the update process. The Board of County Commissioners adopted the Public Participation Program on July 21, 2015.

Kittitas County staff will be implementing the Public Participation Program and developing a draft Comprehensive Plan. The kickoff will be a community visioning workshop in January 2016! More details to come.
Also in January 2016, the County will begin recruiting volunteers for advisory groups that are of specific interest to the community such as: Open space and Recreation, Economic Development, and Housing. Please stay tuned for details.
As each element is completed it will be reviewed by the Planning Commission and will be made available for public review and comment.
The level of environmental review will be determined based on the scope of the comprehensive plan update.
During the final phase of the Comprehensive Plan update the public and local and state officials will review and comment on the overall plan culminating in local adoption by the Board of County Commissioners and approval by the Washington State Department of Commerce.
