Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 09/05/2016 - Kittitas County Search & Rescue volunteers responded to a 45 year old man with a back injury in the Cathedral Rock area and to an injured 12 year old hiker in the Rachel Lake area.
On Saturday, September 3, 2016 at about 4:10 P.M. Kittitas County Search & Rescue volunteers responded to the Fish Lake Camp Ground to assist 45 year old Jerry Merritt of Yakima who was hiking in the Cathedral Rock area when he injured his back. Volunteers were able to bring him out on a wheeled litter. Cathedral Rock is 2,000 feet above fish lake, which is is near the end of the road North from Salmon La Sac. On Sunday, September 4, 2016 at around 4:15 P.M., Sheriff's Deputies and Kittitas County Search & Rescue volunteers responded to rescue 12 year old Seattle resident Loren P Jackson, who sustained non-life threatening injuries after a fall while hiking with his family about 2.5 miles up the Rachel Lake Trail. Like Cathedral Rock, this trail is a rugged back country steep trail with difficult terrain located about 10 miles northwest of Lake Kachess in the Snoqualmie Pass area. The boy was carried out on a makeshift cot by SAR personnel, with the assistance of his family and campers in the area. He was then transported to Over-Lake Hospital by ambulance.
