Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 08/08/2014 - Marsha Weyand, Assessor, would like to make property owners affected by wildfires or other types of property destruction in Kittitas County aware of a possible reduction of property assessments due to loss of value. In the case of wildfire, applying for this reduction is separate from the reporting of property damage for homeowner insurance purposes or in those situations where federal disaster assistance may be available.
A claim form called “Taxpayer’s Claim for Reduction of Assessments Resulting from Destroyed Real or Personal Property or Loss of Value in a Declared Disaster Area” can be found online at the Assessor’s web page at http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/assessor/forms.aspx or in the Assessor’s Office at 205 W. 5th Ave., #101. The back of the claim form includes additional information. Assistance in completing the form is available in the office as well. Property taxes for 2014 that have already been paid on a parcel warranting a reduction in assessed value will be refunded in proportion to the loss of value.
