Kittitas County, WA - 04/30/2024 - Today, April 30, Sheriff Myers presented a Citizen Commendation to Steven Pearson of Buckley.
Mr. Pearson was at the Shell gas station in Easton on March 3rd when KCSO Deputy Jacob Crandall attempted to arrest a 28-year old Seattle man in possession of a stolen vehicle. The suspect pulled away and attempted to flee, and Deputy Crandall pursued. In the short chase, Deputy Crandall suffered a fractured knee but persisted and caught up to the man as he attempted to steal a different car. As Crandall was struggling to take the man into custody, Pearson saw what was happening and ran to assist. Pearson first asked if Crandall needed assistance and then helped hold the man to be safely handcuffed. The suspect pled guilty to possessing a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Deputy Crandall recovered fully from his injury and is back at work, arresting lawbreakers and protecting our community. Sheriff Myers shared his appreciation for the way people like Mr. Pearson step up in time of need. He reflected that Kittitas County has consistently supported and stood behind its law enforcement agencies, with positive impact on public safety. “Effective crime fighting is always a partnership between a community’s civilians and its law enforcement professionals. In this incident, Mr. Pearson embodied that partnership in the most literal way.”
