TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT - PUBLIC HEALTH CLERK I

The current vacancy in the Public Health Department is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt, non-union, non-benefited position expected to begin as soon as possible. Anyone who meets the qualifications stated below may apply.

Salary Range

$10.50 - $13.86 per hour

General duties

  • Provide administrative support to Public Health Department staff for 2009 H1N1 (Swine) Flu Season.
    • Provide receptionist duties including answering phones, screening and directing calls, and general communication facilitation within the department and between department staff and the community.

    • Schedule clinic patients and answer questions within guidelines set up by the nursing staff; sensitivity to HIPPA guidelines is a priority.

    • Assess the sliding fee scale, collect and receipt the fees for services. Assist with the cashiering functions for the department.

    • Assist Public Health Nurses in planning, organizing and implementing the 2009 H1N1(Swine) flu clinics at the Public Health Department, local schools and in the community.

    • Maintain Child Profile Immunization Registry and Vaccine Inventory:

      • Provide maintenance and administration of Child Profile;

      • Enter vaccine lot numbers into Child Profile system;

      • Enter individual client immunization information into Child Profile system;

      • Provide Public Health Nurses with print-outs for review of immunization records;

      • Complete monthly vaccine utilization reports for Public Health Nurses;

      • Responsible for sending Immunization Reminder information to clients as guided by Public Health Nurses;

      • Assist Public Health Nurses in gathering educational materials for provider education and presentations.


    • Assist Public Health Nurses in maintaining the Strategic National Stockpile inventory in coordination with the local pharmacies and medical providers.

    • Assist other administrative support staff as needed; secondary assistance on public health staff projects.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS:
    Other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • One year general office experience with proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs.

  • Demonstrated ability for accuracy and quality with data entry; detail-oriented.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience working with the public; excellent customer service skills.

  • Valid Washington State drivers license.

  • A criminal history and background check will be performed. Candidates may not qualify if they have misdemeanor or felony charges or convictions. Convictions will not necessarily disqualify you from employment. Factors such as age and time of the offense, seriousness and nature of the violation, and rehabilitation will be taken into account.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with cashiering and cash receipts control.

  • Demonstrated ability for accuracy and quality in preparation of documents and reports.

  • Knowledge of HIPPA Guidelines.

  • Bilingual in Spanish; written and verbal communication skills.

Other qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is generally performed in an office environment; sustained posture in a seated position and prolonged periods of computer operation; use of standard office equipment; strength to lift, pull, push, and/or carry up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. There will be encounters with upset and occasionally verbally abusive citizens. The work schedule is generally maintained during normal office hours, but flex hours may occur with some weekend and evening work as needed. Regular attendance and punctuality is required.
