Kittitas County, WA - 12/29/2016 - False Alarms often divert law enforcement resources away from those who are actually in need. This can have a direct impact on public safety and is an inappropriate use of tax dollars.
Every year law enforcement respond to false alarms at businesses, homes and remote cabins. Though the Sheriff's Office fully supports alarm systems as an effective tool for the public's safety and protection of their property, faulty or inadequate systems can and have drawn law enforcement services away from those in need. In an effort to reduce false alarms and more effectively manage resources, The Board of County Commissioners has expanded Chapter 9 of the Kittitas County Code to hold property owners responsible for their alarm systems. In summary, the third false alarm and each subsequent false alarm from the same location, in a six month period, shall constitute a civil infraction with a monetary penalty; Third false alarm ($103.00) Fourth false alarm ($205.00) Fifth false alarm ($513.00) The ordinance can be found on line at http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/boc/countycode/title09.aspx The below attachments are a copy of the brochure containing the declaration and ordinance specifics. These brochures are available through the Sheriff's Office.
