Kittitas County, WA - 08/16/2016 - Kittitas County approves Tourism-Related, Small-Scale Municipality-Owned Capital Projects.
County Commissioners have approved a recommendation from the County’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee awarding lodging tax grants totaling $234,378. The projects awarded funding include $50,000 to construct a restroom at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Ellensburg, $17,000 for enhancement and parking improvements for the Coal Mines Trail in Cle Elum, $21,973 for construction of an equine safety fence at the Washington State Horse Park in Cle Elum and $5,000 for a parking project at Fireman’s Park in Roslyn. In addition, $100,000 was awarded for operations at the Kittitas Valley Event Center, $3,405 for repairs to the County’s mobile stage, $20,000 for County administrative costs, $5,000 for tourism survey equipment, and $12,000 for a contract with the U.S. Forest Service to assist with weekend staffing costs in Cle Elum. “We are very pleased to award funding for such worthy projects that will continue to grow the tourism industry that is such an important component of our economy,” stated Commissioner Paul Jewell, Chairman of the County’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. These awards represent the first grants utilizing the goals and objectives developed during the creation of the County’s Tourism Infrastructure Plan. The Tourism Infrastructure Plan was developed as a cooperative effort between the County and the Cities of Roslyn, Cle Elum, and Ellensburg. It was completed and adopted early this year. “The plan really helped to guide the committee’s decision-making while communicating clearly to applicants how to plan their projects for maximum benefits,” added Commissioner Jewell. This round of lodging tax awards are for projects across the county which were applied for by the municipalities for funding through the County’s small-scale, municipality-owned capital projects and operations grant program. It is one of three grant programs offered by the County for lodging tax funds. Other grant programs include the consolidated grant program for special events and projects which is administered with the Cities of Cle Elum, Ellensburg, and Roslyn, and a large-scale capital project program which is currently under development. The consolidated grant program for special events and projects is currently accepting applications through September 30.
