Kittitas County, WA - 07/27/2015 - The Sheriff's Office along with Kittitas County Seach and Rescue responded to two rescue incidents this weekend besides assisting with the Whiskey Dick Triathalon and the Iron Horse half marathon.
On Sunday morning, a 49 year-old female from Vancouver, Martha Suronen, suffered a possible broken right ankle on the Manastash Ridge trail. She was descending on the Westberg trail near the top when she fell and sustained her injury. The Kittitas County Sheriff deputies and Kittitas County Search and Rescue volunteers responded to the Manastash Ridge trail. The KSAR volunteers hiked to her location and littered her out to the trail head. She was subsequently transported to KVH by KVFR medics for treatment. On Saturday, Jeffrey Swan, 41, of Yakima, WA, was operating his 17’ Seadoo Jet Boat in the Columbia River directly out from Wanapum State Park when his ski rope got sucked into the jet pump on his vessel, disabling it. There were high winds and he called for assistance because the winds were pushing them towards the cliffs on the Grant County side of water. Swan, another adult male, and 3 juveniles were on board the vessel. A Marine Patrol Deputy working on the Columbia River in the Vantage area responded on a PWC to assist. Due to the high winds and rough water, the Deputy towed the vessel to the Grant Co. PUD boat launch just north of Wanapum Dam on the east side of the river. All passengers were wearing life jackets.
