Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 07/05/2015 - The Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center was activated shortly after midnight, in support of Level III Residential evacuations along HWY 97 between Clark and Howard Road. Kittitas County Fire personnel are attempting to hold the fire to the West side of HWY 97 and North of Passmore Road.HWY 97 is closed from HWY 10 North to the Lauderdale Junction. Red Cross Emergency Shelter is open at the Mercer Creek Church.
A wildland fire was reported shortly before Midnight on the West side of HWY 97 about 4 miles North of Ellensburg. Based on the conditions and proximity to homes, Level III evacuations commenced on Passmore Rd, Sundance Ln, Valley Vista Dr and the homes on the west side of HWY 97 between Clark and Howard Road. Level II evacuation notices, (cautionary) are posted for the area on the East side of HWY 97 between Clark Road and Howard Road. At this point the fire has been contained at approximately 100 acres. 15 home have been evacuated and there have been no injuries or structure losses reported.The attached map shows the Level III area in red and the Level II is shown in Yellow. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kittitas County Fire Marshal.
