Kittitas County, WA - 06/29/2015 - The Kittitas County Sheriff’s office and Kittitas County Search and Rescue responded to two SAR incidents over the weekend.
On Saturday, June 27th, the Sheriff’s Office and KSAR responded to an injured horse rider on the Manastash Lake Trail. The rider, 61 year old Gail Dormaier of Ellensburg, fell from her horse while riding on the trail between Lost Lake and Manastash Lake. She was with members of her horse riding club. Dormaier suffered a leg and head injury. She was littered out to the trailhead by KSAR volunteers and transported to Yakima Regional by Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue. On Sunday, June 28th, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s and Kittitas County Search and Rescue responded to an injured hiker at Mirror Lake on the Pacific Crest Trail. The victim, 43 year old Genji Terasaki of Seattle, was hiking the shoreline of Mirror Lake with his family. A four year old male from the group slipped and fell from a rocky outcropping along the lake shore to the shoreline below. Terasaki jumped from the outcropping to rescue the child. Terasaki suffered a compound fracture to his lower leg in the process. The child suffered a minor injury. The incident was initially reported as a broken ankle. The KCSAR ground teams reached the victim. A request for a helicopter extraction was requested through State DEM. The KCSAR team moved the victim through extreme terrain to a suitable extraction point. King County responded with a hoist capable helicopter/medic crew. The victim was hoisted out and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
