Kittitas County, WA - 11/10/2022 - Central Washington University, the City of Ellensburg, and Kittitas County are participating in Operation Green Light this week to honor our veterans. Operation Green Light is spearheaded by the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACO) to raise awareness about the unique challenges veterans face and the resources available to assist them and their families at the county, state, and federal levels. NACO’s mission is for veterans to be seen, appreciated, and supported.
"The City of Ellensburg is pleased to celebrate those who have served our country so bravely by honoring them through Operation Green Light," Mayor Nancy Lillquist said. “Central Washington University is honored to participate in this nationwide show of support for our veterans,” CWU President Jim Wohlpart said, adding that this is the first year the university has been involved in Operation Green Light. “Our service men and women sacrifice so much for their fellow citizens, and they deserve this special recognition from our community.” Government buildings in Kittitas County that will be illuminated in green from November 7 to 13 in honor of Operation Green Light include CWU’s Shaw-Smyser and Barge Hall, The City of Ellensburg’s City Hall sign, and the east side of the Kittitas County Courthouse. “The concept of Operation Green Light is that it is more visible than a typical government proclamation,” states Commissioner Brett Wachsmith. “I am proud and honored that our local government agencies are joining in this operation to support our veterans.” County offices are closed on November 11 in recognition of Veterans Day to recognize the willingness of our veterans to serve and sacrifice for the common good. “We encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize Veterans Day and view the buildings illuminated at night in their honor,” Commissioner Wachsmith said.
