Kittitas County, WA - 08/31/2021 - I-90 Coalition
STEER I-90 (Safety, Transportation, Environment, Equity, and Resiliency) is comprised of stakeholders from a range of organizations engaged in improving the I-90 corridor from Easton to Exit 85 in Cle Elum, Washington. Kittitas County has been plagued with congestion on I-90 and our rural road networks for years. As the recreation demand and tourism increases in Eastern Washington so do the number of travelers on our roadways. Kittitas County Commissioner Laura Osiadacz has been working with the citizens of Kittitas County over the past 5 years to find meaningful solutions for our transportation challenges. During this effort Kittitas County has engaged with local community members as well as State and Federal stakeholders to address concerns regarding congestion, safety, wildlife conflicts, and the ability to consistently support the movement of freight and goods to Seattle regional ports. Through these effort the STEER I-90 Coalition was established. The Coalition’s objective is to widen the corridor of I-90 between Easton and Cle Elum, WA to three lanes for both east and westbound, reduce negative impacts to local road networks from diverted interstate traffic, reduce vehicle accidents, expand economic access to neighboring communities year-round, and improve connectivity between rural communities and metropolitan areas.
