Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 08/02/2021 - Kittitas County is currently experiencing changing air conditions because of wildfires across the state. The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) would like to remind residents to take precautions by using air quality information and resources available.
KCPHD recommends using the Washington State Smoke blog via https://wasmoke.blogspot.com/ for information about current air conditions as well as monitoring and forecasting information. The site also has information about health recommendations and how to improve indoor air. Additional resources are also available at this time for residents who have COPD or asthma (must be 18 or older) and would be interested in free indoor portable air cleaners. The free air cleaners are part of an air quality study program at KCPHD. Limited supply is available (currently have 6 left), and it is first come, first serve. If you are interested, please email joseph.rainwater@co.kittitas.wa.us. When there are air quality issues from wildfire smoke, stay indoors and keep indoor air as clean as possible. Take the following steps when indoors:
