Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 07/27/2021 - On Tuesday August 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., there will be a public hearing to consider proposed changes to Kittitas County Code Chapter 14.08 (Flood Damage Prevention). This public hearing will be held by the Board of County Commissioners in the Commissioner’s Auditorium located at the Kittitas County Courthouse in Ellensburg, Washington.
The proposed amendments will adopt updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps and will ensure the County ordinance meets federal and state requirements for floodplain development. The proposed changes also enable Kittitas County to meet Community Rating System requirements, which is a voluntary program that rewards communities that have programs to reduce flood risk with lower flood insurance rates for all county residents. “Kittitas County is required to meet standards to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program. Participating in this federal program enables people at flood risk to purchase flood insurance, to receive federally-backed mortgages, and makes the County eligible for some types of disaster assistance.” said Arden Thomas, Kittitas County’s Floodplain Manager. “In addition to updating our flood maps, the proposed revisions will clarify requirements for activities in the 100-year floodplain. For example, we identify requirements for storing material and equipment in the 100-year floodplain, specify thresholds for when flood data needs to be developed for land subdivision proposals, and clarify permitting requirements for detached accessory buildings.” A copy of the proposed code revisions is available online and may be viewed at Kittitas County Public Works at 411 North Ruby St, Suite 1 Ellensburg, WA 98926 during normal working hours. Anyone with an interest in this matter is encouraged to attend the public hearing where all testimony will be taken. Written comments may be received at 205 W 5th STE 108 Ellensburg, WA 98926 at or prior to the hearing.
