Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 05/06/2021 - Kittitas County Public Works is pleased to announce a grant award in the amount of $2,463,189 for the replacement of the Liberty Road Bridge over Swauk Creek.
Public Works recently replied to a Call for Projects to the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) to improve transportation facilities that provide access to, are adjacent to, or are located within Federal lands. The FLAP grant supplements State and local resources for public roads, transit systems, and other transportation facilities, with an emphasis on high-use recreation sites and economic generators. Liberty Road is a gateway to the Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest which supports year-round recreational activities such as hiking, hunting, horseback riding, camping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, and camping. The replacement of this load restricted bridge will not only benefit recreators but will also provide economic and safety enrichment by allowing access to large trucks and heavy equipment for U.S. Forest Service timber sales, construction of stream and fish enhancement projects, and allow access for fire prevention and suppression efforts. Planning and design are expected to begin in early 2022 with construction no later than 2025.
