Sheriff’s Office arrests 2 men after report of burglary in progress

Kittitas County, WA - 09/19/2019 - On 09/18/2019 the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary in progress at a construction site on SR 97. A crew foreman arrived at the job site Wednesday morning and called Kittcom to report he had observed a subject running from the area, and he believed he was missing tools from the site. The foreman was able to provide responding deputies with a detailed description of the suspect.

While en route to the scene, deputies observed a vehicle driving erratically on SR 97 and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.  During the traffic stop, deputies observed that the passenger in the vehicle matched the description of the burglary suspect.

A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the driver, Devon D. Drake-Karhu, 29, and the passenger, Christopher R. Damitz, 32, both of Puyallup, WA, for burglary and theft.   During a search of the vehicle, property from the job site was recovered in the suspects’ vehicle.  A full investigation is underway.

“This is a great example of an alert citizen calling law enforcement when he thought something seemed wrong,” said Sergeant Nate Foster.  “He provided a detailed description that was instrumental in identifying the suspects, which led to the arrests and the recovery of stolen property.”
