Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 08/22/2019 - On August 21st the Assessor’s Office mailed approximately 33,000 Official Notice of Value forms to Kittitas County property owners after completing this year’s annual revaluation. Annual revaluation requires one-sixth of the county to be physically inspected and the remaining five-sixths of the county to be statistically updated.
Washington State statute RCW 84.40.030 requires that properties be appraised at 100 percent of market value, however, this does not mean that every property value will change. Values will only change when warranted by the market, therefore, some Notices will indicate a change in value and some will not. The Notices being mailed are not tax bills. Property owners are encouraged to verify their property’s characteristics (e.g., year built, size, etc.) by visiting the Kittitas County Assessor’s webpage at https://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/assessor/default.aspx and to contact the Assessor’s Office at (509) 962-7501 to discuss their value with the appraiser that is familiar with their parcel if it is felt the data is incorrect. There is a relatively new option for property owners to sign up to receive paperless eNotices. If you receive a paper Notice this year, it will include a registration code and website address. Owners that did not register previously will again have the opportunity to do so by using the registration code on this year’s Notice. Registering will mean owners can receive both their Notice of Value and their property tax statement via email. Information regarding appeals to the Board of Equalization will be included on the back of each Official Notice of Value. Instructions for filing an appeal are available on the Board of Equalization website at http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/boc/boe/default.aspx. As a reminder, taxpayers sixty-one and older, or those disabled and unable to have gainful employment, with disposable income under $40,083 per year may qualify for a Senior Citizen/Disabled Persons Property Tax Exemption on their primary residence. For questions on any Assessor’s Office function, please call 962-7501.
