County Arson K9 Receives Grant

Kittitas County, WA - 06/28/2019 - Kittitas County Fire Marshal K9 receives Petco Foundation Helping Heroes grant.

The Kittitas County Fire Marshal’s office is honored to have been selected to receive a grant from the Petco Helping Heroes Foundation in amount of $3,000.  The grant will assist with food, healthcare, re-certification, and training fees associated with the K9 program.  Kittitas County’s Arson K9 is Allie, a certified Accelerant Detection Canine also known as an Arson Dog.  Allie is trained to detect 30 or more ignitable fluids that may be present at the scene of an arson fire.  Allie’s handler is Patrick Nicholson, the Kittitas County Fire Marshal.  Allie investigates multiple fires each month in Kittitas County and locates potential evidence.  In addition to her investigation duties, Allie visits schools around the state and attends public events to educate about fire safety and the crime of arson.  The Petco Helping Heroes Foundation recognizes Allie’s contributions to the community and the amount of training necessary to maintain annual certification.
