Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 06/06/2019 - On May 31st, five Kittitas County Sheriff's Office and four Ellensburg Police Department cadets graduated from the joint 2019 Reserve Academy.
These cadets went through a rigorous interview and background process prior to even being allowed to join the program. After making it through oral boards the cadets spent 345 hours over the last four and a half months training, studying and practicing to reach graduation night.
Reserve cadets receive training in criminal law and procedures along with defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations and firearms. They spent countless evenings and weekends volunteering their time in order to meet the Washington State Criminal Justice Training standards and become certified as Reserve Peace Officers.
These new reserve officers come from all walks of life! Some are just beginning in their quest for a fulltime career in law enforcement and some of them are members of our community whom already have fulltime jobs and just want to serve their community in a unique and rewarding fashion. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the family members who supported these cadets along with members from both agencies who spent countless hours training and preparing them.
Both the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office and the Ellensburg Police department have a long rich history when it comes to the reserve program and each department has trained reserves that have went on to serve in police agencies across the United States.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the reserve program can contact the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office at 509-962-7525 or the Ellensburg Police Department at 509-962-7280 for more information.
