Kittitas County, WA -
Come down to the Ellensburg Farmers Market (Market) on Saturday June 22, 2019 to experience the 3rd annual Food Access Day! This year’s theme is “Bringing Food to Your Table.” There will be free activities for kids and free snacks, all with an emphasis on healthy eating and gardening. The Market is open from 9am until 1pm on Saturday in downtown Ellensburg on 4th Avenue.
The Food Access Coalition for Kittitas County in partnership with Central Washington University will provide marketgoers with information on ways to get food assistance along with nutrition education. “Our goal is to promote healthy families and a healthy community,” states Dana Ogan, Food Access Coalition Chair. “The mission of our coalition is to engage local programs and agencies in advancing access to healthy foods.”
Food Access Day will also launch an updated guide to food access in Kittitas County, called Food4You and a new children’s program called “KERNEL.” Sponsored by FISH Community Food Bank, Kittitas County Public Health, and the Market, KERNEL will provide ten Saturdays of nutrition, physical activity, and gardening activities for children at the Ellensburg Farmers Market. Children who participate will receive a $2 voucher to use at the market, mirroring Fresh Bucks, the Market’s SNAP food benefit incentive program.
The Market runs every Saturday from May through October and more information is available at https://ellensburgfarmersmarket.com/
