Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 05/07/2019 - Kittitas County is seeking public input on a new proposed Wildland-Urban Interface Areas Map. The map is used to implement the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code (IWUIC), which is a model code that has been adopted by Kittitas County and applies to areas where structures and other human development meet or intermingle with undeveloped wildland or vegetative fuels. The IWUIC is a supplement to adopted building and fire codes, and is intended to establish minimum regulations for safeguarding life and property from the intrusion of wildland fires and to prevent structure fires from spreading to wildland fuels. The proposed map would replace the existing Wildland-Urban Interface Areas Map that was adopted in 2013.
Kittitas County will be holding two community open houses in order to receive input on the proposed map, and to answer questions that the public may have regarding the map and how it was prepared. The open houses will be held: Lower County Open House May 21, 2019: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Kittitas Valley Event Center – Armory Room A 901 E. 7th Avenue Ellensburg, WA 98926 Upper County Open House May 22, 2019: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Upper Kittitas County District Court – Courtroom 700 E. 1st Street Cle Elum, WA 98922 The map is available for viewing at Community Development Services, 411 North Ruby Street, Suite 2, and at: https://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/cds/firemarshal/wildland-urban-interface.aspx Written comments may be submitted to Community Development Services or to: cds@co.kittitas.wa.us
