Kittitas County, WA - 05/06/2019 - The Central Washington University (CWU) student who recently returned from international travel who was reported to have been exposed to measles is no longer under quarantine. The student did not develop measles and the risk of developing the illness is past.
The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) worked closely with Central Washington University to ensure the student’s needs were met during the quarantine period from April 19 to May 3, 2019. Measles is a serious illness that is very contagious. The best way to prevent contracting measles is with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. “This is the best outcome we could have asked for,” states Health Officer Dr. Mark Larson. “We are pleased that the CWU student is healthy and how everyone cooperated during the quarantine period.” More information about measles and recent outbreaks in the United States is available on these websites: https://www.doh.wa.gov/YouandYourFamily/IllnessandDisease/Measles https://www.cdc.gov/measles/index.html
