Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 01/18/2019 - The twin engine, Piper PA-23-250 Aztec airplane that crashed south of Ellensburg on January 17, 2019, was piloted by 75 year old, Dr. Frank L. Smith of Wapato. Dr. Smith was the sole occupant of the aircraft.
It is believed that Dr. Smith took off from Ellensburg bound for Yakima. The cause of the crash is currently being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration. An autopsy will be performed as part of the investigation.
