Kittitas (pronounced 'kit-i-tass') County is located in central Washington
State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and
the Columbia River.

On October 28, 2018, at approximately 11:40pm, Ellensburg resident James McCurdy was struck by a vehicle while walking on University Way near the intersection of Reecer Creek Rd.
39 year old James McCurdy was walking eastbound on University Way when he was struck by a passenger car. Mr. McCurdy was last seen inside of the Wild Goose Casino where he had been refused service due to intoxication. Ellensburg Police officers were first on scene and started CPR. Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue arrived and began life-saving measures, however, they were unsuccessful.
The driver of the passenger car was 19 year old CWU student, Ricardo Abarca. Mr. Abarca was assessed by law enforcement and it was determined he showed no signs of impairment. The Washington State Patrol is assisting the Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
