Kittitas County, WA -
Kittitas County received the State Auditor’s Stewardship Award presented by Pat McCarthy, Washington State Auditor. Kittitas County was presented the award in recognition of outstanding accomplishment in the stewardship of public resources as we pursue the shared goal of government that works better, costs less, and earns greater public trust.
In a letter addressed to Kittitas County Commissioners from State Auditor Pat McCarthy it recognized strong leadership from the Commissioner’s office who initiated three Lean projects, including one related to building permits that was very successful. Board Chair, Laura Osiadacz stated, “Kittitas County has embraced a culture of transparency and efficiency in the work we do for the citizens of our county. We are very proud of all the county employees who are dedicated to doing the best job possible for the citizens we serve.”
Another area of achievement recognized is that Kittitas County was the first local government in this area to implement an electronic records management system. By having the records in an electronic format it saves time and money to the tax payers of our county.
Two names where specifically mentioned in the letter to Kittitas County Commissioners. These included Budget and Finance Manager, Judy Pless, and the Kittitas County Auditor, Jerry Pettit. Judy Pless said, “I am honored to be a part of the Stewardship Award the County received from the State Auditor. There are a lot of staff associates who assisted in this process, and I am fortunate to have the support from Jerry Pettit, County Auditor and the Board of County Commissioners.” Recognition to both Judy and Jerry praised their professional and collaborative working relationship with the state auditors. Jerry Pettit stated, “We work very hard to do the best we can for the citizens of Kittitas County. Our innovative approach of constantly looking at how we do our jobs helps us to continuously improve how we manage county dollars. I am pleased and honored that the Office of State Auditor has chosen Kittitas County to receive this special award.”
