Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 08/20/2018 - The Kittitas County Water Resources Program will hold two open houses to discuss the expanded county water metering program in Kittitas County. The first open house will be held August 27, 2018 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Hal Holmes located at 201 Ruby Street in Ellensburg. The second open house will be held on August 28 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Putnam Centennial Center located at 719 E 3rd Street in Cle Elum.
Metering has been required for all new uses of water within the Yakima River Basin since December 2, 2015. On September 4,2018, the County will expand the Kittitas County Water Metering Program to measure water use from all new groundwater withdrawals for domestic purposes (within the Yakima River Basin), not just those who have mitigation from the Kittitas County-owned Water Bank (Kittitas County Code Chapter 13.40.030). This expansion is a result of Senate Bill 6091, which initiated two pilot programs for water metering in Washington State. The pilot program will provide meters at no cost and reimburse installation costs to new participants of the Kittitas County Water Metering Program until 2027. A one-time meter inspection fee of $385 and an annual metering fee of $180 will be administered for customers who do not mitigate through the Kittitas County-owned Water Bank. Staff from the Kittitas County Water Resources Program will host the open houses to discuss the changes to the water metering program and county code and answer questions. “Our goal is always to provide excellent customer service and open communication and we want to ensure that anyone who has a new water use in the Yakima River Basin or anyone considering a new use, has an opportunity to interact with staff in person,” states Erin Moore, Water Resource Program Coordinator for Kittitas County Public Health. The open house will begin with a brief presentation and then open up for questions from attendees. Anyone with a new water use for domestic purpose in the Yakima River Basin in 2018 should consider attending. The metering program will apply to all new users of groundwater for domestic purpose, not just Kittitas County Water Bank customers.
