It is located in the Public Safety Building in Ellensburg. The Kittitas County Corrections Center (KCCC) was built in the 1980's. The facility was originally designed for 45 beds. We currently house approximately 105 inmates. Long term inmates may be housed in a number of other contract facilities in eastern Washington. StaffOur staff is made up of the following positions:
Corrections Deputies and Control Room Deputies work 12 hour shifts and have the luxury of rotating shifts. Kittitas County Corrections Deputies have full law enforcement powers while on official duty at the direction of the Sheriff. Training![]() Pictured: Sergeant Shawn Stredwick New hires are required to attend and successfully complete a 4 week Corrections Academy (160 hours) at the Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien, Washington. The academy focuses on primary custody care, inmate communication, proper search techniques, and enhancing officer safety. In addition, practical skills are involved with mock scenes (which prepares you for the job), quizzes (which prepares you for the state test), tactics and skills for the career they have chosen. At the academy graduation, new hires are awarded their state certification and the honor and privilege of wearing the Corrections Officer badge. Officers are trained with the latest up to date equipment and techniques to ensure safety of staff and the inmate population. Specialized Training
Internships![]() Pictured: Corporal Randy Costello The KCSO-Corrections Division offers a College Internship Program for current college students. Interns are exposed to the many aspects of the department and its operations. We have assigned interns to assist officers to specific job duties such as: fingerprinting, property intake, cell searches, inmate transports, criminal investigations, and public relations. Interested students must complete an application and participate in a background investigation process with the KCSO Corrections Division. Inmate programsThe Kittitas County Judicial System and the Kittitas County Corrections Center believe in giving Inmates an opportunity to continue to be a productive part of the community while being incarcerated. We allow minimum security inmates to work off site for the County Maintenance, Public Works, Fairgrounds Department. The programs provided are: GED, work release, school release, inmate work crew and electronic home monitoring. These programs are a privilege and maybe terminated at anytime.
