Public Works Projects

Design

Once Public Works projects are identified and funding is secured, staff begins designing it. County staff handles most aspects of the design of a project. However, the expertise of an engineering consultant is often used, especially for large or complex projects. All work is performed under the supervision of the County Engineer.

When staff starts the design phase of a project, they take the concept of the project and develop a plan, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) for it. Staff must also consider any grant requirements, environmental issues, right-of-way, acquisitions, and expected schedule when preparing the design.
