Kittitas County, WA - 07/03/2017 - Members of the Kittitas County Search & Rescue responded to the Pete Lake Trailhead Saturday afternoon June 1st, following a report that 48 year old Anthony Kretschman of Cle Elum had sustained an open leg fracture while riding his horse along the Pete Lake Trail in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
A member of the horseback party was with was able to get out via cell phone. He reported that Anthony was going into shock and had lost a lot of blood. Due to the severity of the injury and the remoteness of the location, a rescue helicopter was requested via State Department of Emergency Management. A USFS Backcountry Ranger was in the area of Pete Lake when this incident was reported and responded to and assisted Anthony until the helicopter’s arrival. A military meda-vac helicopter based at the Yakima Training Center was able to get to the patient quickly, stabilize and transport him to Yakima Memorial Hospital. .
