Kittitas County, WA - 09/05/2016 - The accident occurred on one of the 4-WD jeep roads on Manastash Ridge, in the area of Lost Lake, about 30 miles South-West of Ellensburg.
Sunday September 4th at about 4:30 P.M. Kittitas County Sheriff's Deputy Nate Foster responded to the Funny Rocks area for a fatality motor vehicle accident. The victim, 23 year old Nocholas Griffith of Bothel, Washington, was in the backseat of the open top vehicle which was climbing a steep portion of the road when the drive line broke, causing the vehicle shoot backwards rapidly and roll. Mr. Griffith, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the Toyota 4-Runner. Preliminary investigation indicates this tragic accident was the result of mechanical failure. Funny Rocks is a popular 4-WD area due to it's steep and technical nature.
