Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 02/16/2016 - Sheriff's Office reminds people to use caution around flood waters.
We are experiencing minor flooding in multiple areas of the county with water over some roadways and driveways. Though some vehicles have higher clearance, the roadway under the water may not be stable. Most incidents which occur while driving through floodwaters are the result of hazards you cannot see. Moving water can create large holes or undercut paved surfaces in a very short time and those dangers may not be visible. If you find yourself stranded or washed off the roadway, it is usually best to remain with your vehicle and call for assistance. If you have experienced injury or property damage as a result of the current flooding, please notify the Sheriff's Office. It is also important to remember that flood waters around urban areas often contain contaminants that can be harmful to both people and animals. More information is available by contacting the Kittitas County Public Health Department.
