Kittitas County, WA - 07/27/2015 - Kittitas County Sheriff's Office responded to an injured hiker on the Manastash Ridge and the Sheriff's Marine Patrol responded to a vessel in distress on the Columbia River.
2 adults and 3 children requested assistance with a vessel in distress call Saturday Saturday afternoon when heavy winds threatened to blow them into the cliffs on the East side of the river. 41 year old Jeffrey Swan of Yakima lost control of his 17 foot SeaDoo Jet Boat when a ski rope was sucked into the jet intake. A Sheriff's Deputy reached the disabled vessel near the cliffs and was able to tie on and tow it to the Grant County Boat Launch south of I-90. On Sunday morning 49 year-old Martha Suronen of Vancouver suffered a possible broken right ankle on the Manastash Ridge trail. She was descending on the West-Berg Trail near the top when she fell and sustained her injury. Sheriff deputies, Search and Rescue volunteers and member from Kittitas Valley Fire hiked to her location, stabilized her leg and brought her out to the trail head on a litter. She was subsequently transported to KVH by KVFR medics for treatment.
