Kittitas County, WA - 07/05/2015 - Kittitas County Firefighters have contained the Passmore Road Fire, which burned between 100 and 200 acres along HWY 97, 5 miles North of Ellensburg.
Effective 0430 this morning the evacuations have been lifted and the highway has been opened. There were 23 homes in the evacuation area. No structures were lost and no injuries were reported. An updated map has been attached which shows the corrected evacuation boundaries and the fire footprint. It should be noted the fire started north of Howard Road and traveled South and West prior to being contained. The nature of the fire has been upgraded to suspicious and is believed to have been intentionally set. On behalf of the Sheriff's Office, "this could have been tragic, had it not been for the rapid response from the fire services and residents in the area".
