Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 11/18/2014 - On December 1, in honor of World AIDS Day, the Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) will be providing free HIV testing and counseling. No appointments are necessary and anyone can access free HIV testing on Monday, December 1, between 9am and 5pm.
People getting tested can expect a brief screening process, which is just a series of questions to assess your risk level for having contracted HIV. All testing records are kept confidential. Saliva is collected from the inside of the cheek for testing. No blood draw is necessary. Samples are sent to a Washington State testing facility and results are returned in two weeks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone get tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime. Getting tested for HIV is the only way to find out if you have HIV. Getting tested is the first step to accessing medical care and preventing the spread of the virus. Without medical care, HIV leads to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) and premature death. About 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV. Nearly one in five people with HIV don’t know they are infected (CDC). Come into the Kittitas County Public Health Department located at 507 North Nanum Street, Suite 102, in Ellensburg on Monday, December 1 between 9am and 5pm. Contact us at 509-962-7515 if you have questions.
