Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 10/23/2014 - The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) wants residents to enjoy healthy food and celebrate National Food Day on October 24th. Food Day is a national holiday that brings attention to making positive changes in our diets along with taking action to solve food-related problems in your community.
To commemorate Food Day this year, the Ellensburg Public Library is hosting a community picnic event on the 24th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The event is free! It is a potluck-style gathering for the community. There will be home-made, healthy food and live music. Participants should bring their own plates and flatware. Participants may also bring a dish to share with others. At the Food Day event in 2013, the food ranged from appetizers and desserts to salads, stir fries, and casseroles. The Kittitas County Public Health Department works with community partners to increase access to healthy foods. KCPHD has participated in various health events this year educating about nutrition and promoting healthy behaviors. In partnership with the Food Access Coalition for Kittitas County, KCPHD has raised awareness about local food resources. Both organizations support healthy food policies in schools and in the workplace. They also work to promote local community gardens. The Food Access Coalition printed a new healthy food resource guide for 2014/2015 and has just published a 2015 healthy community calendar.
