Kittitas County, WA - 09/04/2014 - Being prepared for an emergency or disaster can make it easier to get through the emergency and then to recover from it. The goal of National Preparedness Month is to increase the number of individuals participating in preparedness actions at home, work, business, school, and place of worship.
“Emergency preparedness can be overwhelming, which is a barrier for people to start the process,” states Robin Read, Kittitas County Public Health Department Administrator. “Do 1 thing” is a website that breaks down preparedness activities for each month of the year. “Do 1 thing” is a way to take small steps towards preparing for an emergency. Each month is dedicated to a topic ranging from emergency supplies to first aid to unique family needs. More information can be found at do1thing.com In order to prepare, residents should be informed about the potential types of hazards present in Kittitas County. Historically, flooding is one of the most common hazards in Kittitas County, but severe storms and wildland fires are also potential problems. More information about hazard identification can be found at http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/sheriff/cemp/HIVA%202012.pdf.
