Kittitas (pronounced 'KITT-i-tass') County is located in central Washington State. It spans from the lush forested Cascade Mountains to the upper Yakima River Valley plains and the Columbia River.
Kittitas County, WA - 07/20/2014 - The fire-fighting efforts continue on Saddle Mountain, which has impacted Public, Private and Govermtent Lands and Infrastructure.
As the fire-fighting efforts continue, the humanitarian efforts are winding down and the County Emergency Operations Center is transitioning from Response to Support and Recovery. The role of the county in this event is to provide operational and logistical support to the fire-fighting efforts, to establish evacuation levels, provide shelter and basic human needs, protect critical infrastructure and establish emergency medical responses. Effective today, services have been restored in Auvil and, despite losing 2 homes and some outbuildings, there are enough resources to allow the ranch occupants to return from the Red Cross shelter today and the farm workers to return tomorrow. Access to Huntzinger Road will remain 'Restricted' in support of fire-fighting efforts to the South and for Infrastructure assessment and repair. PSE transmission lines are still compromised and the Wind farm is off-line. Huntzinger Road itself will require some repair. A safety inspection of the road and embankment will commence Monday.
