Kittitas County, WA -
On January 5, 2012, the state Supreme Court issued McCleary v. State of Washington.
The Court ruled that the State of Washington is violating the constitutional rights of children by failing to amply fund the education of all K-12 students. As a result of this decision, the 2017 Legislature passed Engrossed House Bill 2242. This law changes how the state will meet its obligation for fully funding basic education in public schools. In 2018, the state will be collecting almost $7,000,000 in additional property tax from Kittitas County taxpayers. If you are a senior citizen or disabled person, you may be exempt from paying a portion of this amount. Contact our office for more information.
