Reduction of Property Assessments for Fire Damaged Property
Kittitas County, WA - 08/27/2012 - Marsha Weyand, Assessor, would like to make property owners affected by the Taylor Bridge Fire in Kittitas County aware of a possible reduction of property assessments due to loss of value. However, Ms. Weyand notes that applying for this reduction is separate from the reporting of property damage for the purpose of receiving federal disaster assistance funds which is described in a prior press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office and posted on their web page at http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/sheriff/default.asp.
A claim form called “Taxpayer’s Claim for Reduction of Assessments Resulting from Destroyed Real or Personal Property or Loss of Value in a Declared Disaster Area” can be found online at the Assessor’s web page at http://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/assessor/forms.asp, or in the Assessor’s Office at 205 W. 5th Ave., #101. Property taxes for 2012 that have already been paid on a parcel warranting a reduction in assessed value will be refunded in proportion to the loss of value.
