FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kittitas County is Improving Nelson Siding Road
Kittitas County, WA - 06/06/2012 - ELLENSBURG, WA (June 6, 2012) – Kittitas County hired the contractor MJ Hughes Construction Company to improve Nelson Siding Road, a rural road that is located between Easton and Cle Elum in upper Kittitas County. These improvements will make the road safer for travelers by widening the pavement width, improving side slopes, and replacing bridges.
In May, County employees began surveying the road in preparation for the contractor to begin construction activities this month. Utility workers will start moving utilities about the second week of June. The contractor will then begin construction work, starting on the eastern end and moving westward.
Work on this project will take place Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. till around 6:00 p.m. A detour route will be set up to reroute traffic while replacing three separate water crossings. They will be replaced one at a time, starting on the east end with the Little Creek Bridge, then the Big Creek Bridge, and last a culvert near the railroad track crossing. The contractor must complete this project in 120 working days, so it is expected that this project will be completed in 2013.
Douglas D’Hondt, County Engineer, said that he is glad to have the opportunity to make Nelson Siding Road safer and more durable. Please remember to slow down in the construction zone and give the equipment and workers plenty of space!
