- Kittitas County Public Health Department Seeks Information Regarding Old Landfill/Dump Sites 05/22/2013
- The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) is working to locate and archive all of the old landfill and garbage dump sites that may have existed in the county at one time. Currently, KCPHD is constructing a computer-based Geographical Information Systems (GIS) map layer which will act as an archive to store photographs and other documentation about old landfill sites.

- The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) is reaching out to the community in an effort to decrease the number of unsecured vehicle loads traveling on roadways and entering transfer stations in Kittitas County.
- Past Due Personal Property Returns May Receive Penalties 05/15/2013
- April 30th was the deadline for filing Personal Property Returns with the Kittitas County Assessor’s Office for business owners. Business owners that have not filed their Returns may receive penalties. The Assessor would like to urge those business owners that have not yet filed Returns to do so as soon as possible in order to minimize penalties.

- In accordance with the tradition of the American Public Works Association, those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services will be honored during National Public Works Week, May 19-25, 2013.
- Armed barricaded subject arrested 05/09/2013
- Kittitas County Deputies attempting to serve a felony warrant for probation violations yesterday at about 2 PM, resulted in the subject barricading himself in a large shop armed with a weapon. Daniel Soules, age 55 from Ellensburg, was arrested without incident around 6:30 AM this morning after a lengthy standoff.

- Sheriff's Office Swears in new reserve deputies 05/03/2013
- On May 2, Kittitas County Sheriff Gene Dana swore in five new reserve deputies. The officers had just completed the academy and passed the Washington State Training Center's final test.
- Yakima County Pertussis Case Linked to Kittitas County 04/26/2013
- On April 24, 2013, Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) received information about a laboratory-confirmed case of pertussis (whooping cough) in an infant from Yakima County. The case was linked to a Kittitas County adult. KCPHD has initiated an investigation to stop the potential spread of the illness. If you believe you have been exposed or are showing symptoms of pertussis, please contact your health care provider.
- What’s Happening with the Flood Control Zone District 04/24/2013
- Spring weather is here, and the Flood Control Zone District reminds residents to remain aware of potential flooding. Warm winds and heavy rains can cause instant flooding, such as was seen in the May 2011 flood. Because of the County’s complex network of canals, ditches and streams, it is important that everyone be aware of potential flooding no matter where you live.
- Inmate trustees continue to help save tax dollars 04/19/2013
- Kittitas County has always supported the use of inmates for fairgrounds and county building maintenance to save thousands of tax dollars each year. Recently through the purchase of a sewing maching, trustees are repairing their own clothing and blankets that might normally have been thrown away.
- Personal Property Return Filing Deadline 04/17/2013
- The Kittitas County Assessor would like to remind those who have personal property used in the course of doing business that their Personal Property Returns are due April 30th in order to avoid late filing fees.
- Warm Weather Causing Minor Flooding 04/03/2013
- Warm spring weather is causing streams in the Kittitas Valley to rise. On Wednesday, April 3, minor flooding on Naneum Creek and other streams east of Ellensburg was reported. Sandbags are available at the fairgrounds parking lot north of Western Village, at University Way and Alder Street.
- Notice of Citizen Advisory Committee meetings for Regional Shoreline Master Program update and County Critical Areas Ordinance update. 03/11/2013
- Kittitas County and the Cities of Ellensburg, Cle Elum, and the Town of South Cle Elum are participating in a multi-year process to develop a regional Shoreline Master Program (SMP). In conjunction with the regional SMP update, Kittitas County has initiated an update to its Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO). One component of these update processes is formation of a Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) to help in establishing final recommendations on shoreline environment designations and goals, policies, and use regulations for the County and Cities/Town and final recommendations on County critical area goals and regulations.

- Kittitas County is Paving Kittitas Highway in 2013 02/22/2013
- Kittitas County will begin improving the Kittitas Highway project earlier than originally planned. This is due to recent and unexpected changes in fiscal policy on federally funded transportation projects. On February 4, 2013, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) notified Kittitas County that at least $1.4 million in federal transportation dollars must be ready to spend on the Kittitas Highway Safety Improvements federal project starting June 1, 2013, or the funds will be made available to other projects within the state.
- 2013 PROPERTY TAXES 02/22/2013
- The 2013 Tax Roll is now certified. Payments for these taxes are currently being accepted by mail, on our website, or in person at the Treasurer's Office.
- Kittitas County Regional Shoreline Master Program Update - Initial Draft SMP Available For Public Comment 01/30/2013
- The County, Ellensburg, Cle Elum, and South Cle Elum are working together to conduct a regional Shoreline Master Program update. An initial draft shoreline master program has been prepared and is available for public comment.
- Ellensburg Bulldogs Shoot and Score –FLU VACCINE CLINIC 01/23/2013
- The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) will be providing flu and whooping cough vaccine at Ellensburg High School on January 25, 2013. All vaccinations for children will be provided at no cost, but will require signed guardian permission. Adults can get Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) for free of charge and can get a flu shot for $30.00 (cash or check). Going to the game? Driving by? Adults and young children can get a flu and/or Tdap vaccine between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Ellensburg High School.
- One case of bacterial meningitis in Kittitas County being investigated 01/22/2013
- An adult female was hospitalized on January 20, 2013 with bacterial meningitis. The Kittitas County Public Health Department has identified and contacted individuals who may have been exposed. Exposed individuals have been prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection by Dr. Mark Larson, Kittitas County Health Officer and their primary care providers have been notified.
- Influenza Epidemic Peaks in Washington State and Kittitas County 01/18/2013
- Influenza (flu) has reached epidemic thresholds throughout the United States. Widespread flu activity was reported by forty-seven out of fifty states in the week ending January 5, 2013. For the first time this season, the percentage of deaths in the U.S. attributed to pneumonia and influenza was 8.3%, exceeding the epidemic threshold of 7.3%. Influenza activity usually peaks in February or March, however, this year the peak is occurring earlier than usual. To date, there have been twenty child deaths due to influenza and thousands of hospitalizations for influenza-like illness throughout the U.S. Symptoms of the flu are a sudden onset of fever, cough, sore throat, headaches, and/or body aches. Flu symptoms are similar to those of a common cold, however, flu symptoms tend to be more severe and cold viruses generally do not cause a fever.
