PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE II - First Steps Program

The current vacancy in the Health Department is a 40 hrs per week, exempt, benefited position expected to begin as soon as possible. Anyone who meets the qualifications stated below may apply.

Salary Range

$3,033 - $4,004 per month.

General duties

  • Responsible for implementation of all functions of the Medicaid First Steps Maternity Support Services program including but not limited to:
    • Provide comprehensive nursing assessment, education and support for pregnant and post-partum women, and infants
    • Provide education regarding all aspects of pregnancy, infant, child and women’s health
    • Maintain client charts
    • Provide referrals based on client-demonstrated need
    • Participate in Maternity Case Management and Maternity Support Services meetings
    • Maintain client appointment schedule and related program documentation
    • Attend First Steps training opportunities
    • Attend breastfeeding training opportunities
  • Provide care that is client/family centered, culturally competent and respectful of individual needs and preferences.
    • Provide links to and with community services for clients’ i.e. childcare, childbirth education, childcare, parenting, counseling.
    • Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by Washington State Law, RCW 26.44.030.
    • Collaborate with other county, state and federal agencies with implementation of programs.
    • Collaborate with co-workers and interagency staff when necessary and make independent decisions regarding clients.
    • Document and maintain accurate client record for systematic follow-up, quality assurance, and legal action as necessary. Collect required statistical data for monthly reports.
    • Responsible for own professional growth and development through reading, continued education, consulting with other professionals, and initiating involvement in community programs/committees.
    • Prepare quarterly reports regarding program activities.
    • Maintain current license as registered nurse.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS
    • Work in clinic services providing adult and child immunizations, overseas travel consultations, TB testing, and medication monitoring.
    • Conduct communicable disease and food borne illness investigations.
    • Other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications

Experience and Training Requirements
Registered Nurse with Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
OR
Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program approved by the National League for Nursing Minimum 2 years experience in Maternal Child Health nursing.

Preferred qualifications

Desired Training and/or Skills
• Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program approved by the National League for Nursing.
• Demonstrated Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills.
• Minimum one year Public Health Nursing experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Programs.

Other qualifications

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.
Valid Washington State drivers license.
Ability to communicate well enough to effectively accomplish the essential functions of the job.
Vision enough to read and review detailed written reports and perform nursing duties.
Ability to pass a Washington State criminal history background check.
