HIV/AIDS Prevention
The HIV/AIDS Prevention program offers testing and counseling services, educational presentations, case management, blood
borne pathogen and HIV awareness training, and outreach to at-risk individuals to help reduce the incidence and spread of HIV
infection in Kittitas County.
Services Available
Testing and counseling services
Confidential and anonymous testing for HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis C including pre- and post-test counseling with a trained professional.
- Appointments available by appointment only; call (509) 962-7028 for an appointment. Fees are calculated on sliding fee scale.
- What's the difference between confidential and anonymous? All medical records are confidential, but the client's name is on these records. Anonymous means that no name is ever attached to a file or to the blood sample taken for the test. Clients may use just a first name or an alias when making the appointment for the test. At the time of the test, the client creates a code that he or she can easily remember; the file and blood sample are then labeled with this code. At the follow-up appointment, the client gives the code to the person giving the results so that the appropriate file and results can be retrieved.

Issues
Since the 1980s, HIV and AIDS have impacted the lives of millions of people worldwide. Through education, prevention work,
and outreach, the spread of HIV/AIDS can be slowed and eventually halted all together. Although the incidence rate is higher
in larger urban areas, the number of cases in Kittitas County is proof that HIV/AIDS is everywhere. You can decrease your
chances of contracting HIV/AIDS or another blood borne pathogen by learning about how to protect yourself and your loved
ones. The HIV/AIDS Prevention Program reaches over 1,000 individuals annually through a variety of avenues.
